St. Scholastica’s Nina Waidacher was named to the Switzerland women’s hockey national team for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games on Wednesday. She will become the first Saint athlete to play in the Olympic Games.

The junior from Arosa, Switzerland, currently leads NCAA Division III in points per game (3.09), goals per game (1.82) and power-play goals per game (0.73).

Waidacher’s younger sister, Isabel Waidacher, was named as a first alternate to the team.

Nina, along with her older sister Monika Waidacher, was an alternate on the 2010 Olympic squad and did not see the ice during the Vancouver games. However, both were part of the 2012 Swiss National team that won the bronze medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Hockey Championships. They were the only two NCAA Division III hockey players competing at the world championships.

Isabel Waidacher currently leads the nation in assists per game (1.82) and is second in points per game (3.00).
