Richard "Louie" J Kuecher
Richard "Louie" J Kuecher, 69, of Superior succumbed to prostate/bone cancer on July 10, 2014.
He was the second in a large family from the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills. Following high school Richard voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Marine corps serving in Vietnam and earning the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation with ribbon bar, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Four Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Citations Civil Actions Color - First Class, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Expert Badge and the Pistol Sharp Shooters Badge. He re-enlisted in the USAF Reserves and gained a private pilot license.
Richard enjoyed fishing at Crane Lake with his family and later at Andrew Lake Lodge in the Northwest Territory as well as other local lakes and resorts.
He was an active member at the Northstar Gym with his trainer Steve Des Marais. He was a supporter of the Duluth Zoo, Salvation Army, Community Action Program and a Friend of the Superior Library. He was a Life Member of VVA and DAV and enjoyed the comradery of the Douglas County Van to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center where he received excellent care. He was remarried on January 2, 2000 to Patricia Hovi by Rev. Reiff at the Androy Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Francis Kuecher and a brother John Kuecher.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Hovi, of Superior; his mother, Kathleen Doyle Kuecher; his son, Michael (Ann Marie) Kuecher of Lake Worth Fla.; granddaughters Alyssa and Arianna; his siblings Robert Francis Jr. (Catherine S.), Francis Laurence, Janet Marie Johansen, Julie (James) Schloss, Kathleen (Frank) Russo, William Clair (Constance), Carolyn, Jo Ellen ( George ) Wheeden, Laurence Michael (Leslie), Edward Alan (Evelyn) Kuecher; his friend and brother-in-law Greg Berg of Kettle River, Minn.; his sisters-in-law Eleanor (Hovi) Eskuri of Moose Lake, Minn., Edna (Walter) Gierman of Springfield, Tenn.
Richard's wife extends thanks to Gobind Tarchan PA and the Minneapolis VA Oncology Staff for their prompt and courteous care. Also many thanks go to Bayshore Care Center for their expertise and pain relief and to his caretakers Mandy and Dan "The Man" as well as Alliance Home Care worker Terrie Van Guilder.
Richard will be remembered for his kind and generous nature.
His memorial service will be held Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kettle River, Minn. His cremains will be buried by friends and family at that time at the Leonard Cemetery following the Military Honors.
