Richard L. Forsythe

Richard L. Forsythe, 80, of Iron River, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, in Duluth, Minn. He was born May 14, 1933, in Delta, Wis., the son of Leonard and Hilda (Jacobson) Forsythe.

In 1952, he graduated from Iron River High School. From 1952 to 1956, he was an MP Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict and was stationed, in England. For a couple of years, Richard worked for a core drilling company. On Jan. 7, 1961, he married JoAnn C. Dippel, in Iron River. He sailed on the Great Lakes for the Cleveland Cliff Corporation. He then received his Union Card and worked 30 years for Hedenberg Construction, in the Duluth-Superior area. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, in Iron River, the Carpenters Local Union 361, the American Legion and VFW, in Iron River and the Iron River Volunteer Fire Department. Richard enjoyed working, doing projects for his family and friends and supervising in his later years, when he was unable to do the work himself.

He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn, Iron River; three sons, Rick A. (Jody) Forsythe, Iron River, Dean (Kim) Forsythe, Carlton, Minn. and Darren (Joy) Forsythe, Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Justina and Tyler Forsythe; a brother, Gene Forsythe, Shawano; brother-in-law, Jack Dippel, Carol Stream, Ill.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Forsyth, Dodgeville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Russ Forsythe; a sister, Beverly Farnady; a brother-in-law, Ed Farnady; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Forsythe and Alice Dippel.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, in Iron River, with Rev. Kristina Jensen officiating.

Interment will take place in Iron River City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the church.
