‘Pink the Rink’ is Tuesday during SHS hockey game
Superior High School students Julia Frye, Riley McGrath and Samantha Roske will sponsor this year’s “Pink the Rink” event as part of their SHS Senior Projects.
The event will take place during Tuesday night’s Spartan boys hockey game with the Hermantown Hawks. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Wessman Arena.
“The girls have decided to continue the Pink The Rink event to raise money to fight breast cancer,” SHS hockey coach Jason Kalin said. “All proceeds earned from this event will go to Essentia Health in Superior to help prevent and fight breast cancer in our community.”
In 2013, there were 234,580 estimated new cases of breast cancer in the U.S., of which, 232,340 were females and 2,240 were males.
“An estimated 40,000 people died from this disease last year so it is clear that treatment and prevention can be very effective against this form of cancer,” Kalin said.
The group will be raising money in a variety of ways, including: a T-shirt sale; pink ribbon sale; the raffle of a game-worn game jersey from the Pink The Rink event; 50/50 drawing; a donation jar. More information on cancer may be found at www.cancer.org.
