Northern Wisconsin sheriff tapped to help in drug investigation

A joint drug investigation involving the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of a southern Wisconsin man for marijuana manufacturing and trafficking.

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received information concerning drug trafficking involving numerous local high school students. The investigation led them to a Hayward residence owned by a 56-year-old Stoddard, Wis. man

Sheriff’s offices in Vernon and Sawyer counties worked with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation and West Central MEG Drug Task Force.

Warrant searches were conducted at properties in Hayward and Stoddard. Investigators found an indoor hydroponic marijuana operation with 67 plants in various growth stages at the Hayward residence. At the Stoddard property, investigators found processed marijuana, guns and cash.

The Stoddard man was arrested in Vernon County, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.

This case remains under investigation.

No charges had been filed in Vernon County Circuit Court against the suspect as of press time, according to online court records.
