NHS runners sweep HON team titles

The Northwestern High School cross country team made it a clean sweep at Tuesday's Heart O' North Conference meet in Barron.

The Tigers won all four team events as the boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams all finished in first place.

Spooner sophomore Daniel Pederson won the boys varsity race in 16 minutes, 35 seconds, and Bloomer junior Cora Bruxvoort won the girls race in 15:25.7.

Tim Heikkila was the fastest Tiger boy, finishing third in 17:08. Northwestern sophomore Emma Nelson finished second in the girls race in 16:07.2.

Up next for the NHS runners is the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Meet at 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Amery. The first two teams and the first five individuals who are not members of a qualifying team will advance to the WIAA State Meet on Nov. 2 at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
