New officer sworn to serve SPD ranks

A new officer joined the ranks of Superior Police Department.

Gary Kneisl who grew up in Willmar, Minn., was sworn in Thursday, and started training Monday at the Wisconsin Police Recruit Academy.

Kneisl exceled as a student and athlete in Willmar. He played football and baseball, and participated in track and wrestling in high school. He attended Ridgewater College in Willmar and was elected captain of the university wrestling team. He transferred to the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration there. He has recently been attending Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College’s law enforcement program.

He has worked as a motorcycle mechanic and sales associate at Harley Davidson dealers in the Willmar area and Duluth, and as a solutions coordinator for Rockwell Automation.

Kneisl has been working at the Northeast Regional Correctional Center as a mechanic and crew leader. His work there involves close contact with the inmates, serving as a counselor and trainer to them.

Gary became interested in law enforcement while working at the Northeast Regional Correctional Center and entered the law enforcement program.

Chief Charles LaGesse said the department is glad Kneisl applied and will be joining the department.

He, his wife Holly and their two children live in Duluth.
