Myrtle A. Smith, 98, of Superior and formerly of Gordon passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at St. Francis in the Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Myrtle Arlene was born Jan. 16, 1916 in Solon Springs, the daughter of Melvin and Selma (Larson) Danielson. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from high school in Amery, Wis. On Nov. 10, 1940 Myrtle was joined in marriage to James Smith in Carlton, Minn. They moved to Rockford, Ill. where Myrtle was a homemaker and good cook who was always the last to finish eating. The family wondered if she ever ate a meal while it was still hot. Later, she began work as a payroll clerk for a furniture manufacturer. After their retirement, Myrtle and James moved to Gordon where they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. She was a stylish lady who always enjoyed looking her best.
Myrtle is survived by her grandchildren, Cari Reder of Superior, Michael Anderson of Gordon; great-grandchildren, Anthony Reder of Superior, Courtney Reder of Superior; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; daughter, Judith Anderson; two brothers and one sister.
A private funeral service was held for Myrtle at the Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs. Interment was in the Gordon Memorial Cemetery.
