Minnesota man killed in snowmobile crash in Bayfield County, Wis.
A Rochester, Minn., man is dead following a snowmobile accident in the town of Hughes in Bayfield County, Wis.
The Bayfield County Sheriff's Department received a call shortly after 10:15 p.m. Saturday concerning the accident on East Deep Lake Road. The victim was reported to be bleeding heavily and was nonresponsive and CPR was in progress, according to a news release issued by the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department. Iron River Police, Iron River Fire and Ambulance, Ashland Paramedics and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene with Bayfield County deputies.
According to the sheriff's department, the victim, Howard Webster Partlow, 42, was operating a snowmobile on East Deep Lake Road with six friends from Minnesota and Iowa. Each was on their own snowmobiles. Partlow passed the lead snowmobile and continued southbound on East Deep Lake Road, driving out of sight of the group leader. At the next corner, Partlow was unable to negotiate the corner. The snowmobile and operator drifted across the roadway, off the side of the road and shoulder, striking trees. Partlow, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, died as result of the injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR.
