Mary Johnson

Mary Johnson, 100, was born in Burlington, Ipwa to William and Corrine Wesner on Oct. 28, 1913, and died at the Spring Valley Health Care Center in Spring Valley, Wis. on Nov., 15, 2013. Mary was a registered nurse (RN). She took her nurses training at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, Ill. where she met her husband, Fred Johnson. They were married for 52 years.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sister, Jean Zollars; and brother, William Wesner.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Butch) Leaf and Barb Sutherland; grandchildren, Curt (Julie) Leaf, Cindy (Zach) Roux, Mark (Laurie) Leaf, Robert (Peg) Sutherland and Jill (Cary) Krusemark; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mary resided in Superior with her husband, Fred and daughters, spending summers at Lake Nebagamon. At age 88 she moved to Rice Lake, Wis. where she could be closer to family. At 96 Mary moved into Brentwood Assisted Living in Rice Lake where she made many friends, and enjoyed participating in many activities.

Mary was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, PEO and played bridge until she was nearly 100. She loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, gardening (she had quite a green thumb), reading, knitting and family reunions. Mary was ready to go out to dinner at the drop of a hat.

Her family would like to express their thanks for the kindness she received from the staff at Brentwood Assisted Living and the Spring Valley Health Care Center.

Mary will be missed by many. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI and will be held at a later date.
