Linzmeier hits milestone in UWS loss

The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s and women’s basketball teams both fell to UW-Stevens Point over the weekend.

The Pointer women opened Saturday’s doubleheader with a 65-58 win over UWS, and the Pointer men defeated UWS 63-46 in the second game at Berg Gym.

The Yellowjacket women trailed by just two points with 1:22 to play, but the Pointers ended the game on a 7-2 run to seal the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.

Myranda Tyler had 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead Stevens Point (15-5 overall, 8-3 WIAC), and Lauren Anklam added 14 points.

Sally Linzmeier had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead UWS (12-7, 5-5). She also reached a major milestone during the game by scoring her 1,000th career point. Linzmeier scored her 1,000th career point on a layup just before halftime.

The Yellowjackets also received 13 points from Britnee Blake and 10 points from Grace Kennedy.

In the men’s game Stevens Point stretched its winning streak to 22 games with a 63-46 victory over the Yellowjackets.

The Pointers (20-0 overall, 11-0 WIAC) led 25-22 after the first half but went on a 38-24 run in the second half to stay unbeaten.

Trevor Hass and Joe Ritchay had 17 points apiece for the top-ranked Pointers.

Jarrod Peterson had 16 points and seven rebounds for UWS (5-14, 2-8).
