Kenneth B. Hoffman

Kenneth (Kenny) B. Hoffman, 82, of Superior, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at Essentia Health Palliative Care.

Kenneth was born on Feb. 21, 1932 to Frank and Ethel (Winchester) Hoffman. He graduated from East High School of Superior in 1951. Kenneth joined the Marine Corps and served his country honorably in the Korean War from January of 1951 to May of 1952. He ended his military career with the rank of Corporal. After coming home Ken spent his working career as a locomotive engineer. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He retired from Chicago & North Western Railway on May 12, 1994 after serving 42 years in the railroad industry. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoyed all seasons. He was a fun-loving individual who enjoyed dancing, singing, spending time on the jet-ski, atv, motorcycle and snowmobile. Most of all Ken loved to help out his neighbors and friends especially when it came to moving snow.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Russell and Vernal and first wife Leila (Puhakka).

Ken is survived by spouse Donna; children, Scott, Janette (Eugene) Thill; step-children, Lori Kunkel and Todd Carlson; step-grandchildren, Nathan and Molly Kunkel as well as many extended family members and friends.

The family extends its thanks to the staff at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center and Essentia Health Palliative Care department for the love, kindness and great care given to Ken.

As a celebration of Ken's life, a gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association or Middle River Health and Rehabilitation.
