Golden Bears pull away from Tigers

The Northwestern Tigers girls basketball team trailed just 9-6 after one quarter of play before the Barron Golden Bears pulled away for a 71-41 victory Tuesday night in Maple.

Barron improved to 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the Heart O’ North Conference with the victory. Northwestern falls to 3-11 and 2-8.

The Bears outscored the Tigers 17-4 in the second quarter to open up the game.

Gina Forehand led Barron with 27 points, which included 16 in the third quarter. Alyssa Misselt added 12 points and Afton Kuehndorf had 11.

Cheyanne Johnson led the Tigers with 19 points, which included 5-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line. Amanda Ogren was next in scoring with 10 points.

The Tigers play at Chetek at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
