Fire destroys home near Solon Springs
A lake home near Solon Springs is a total loss after a fire Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 10921 S. Jackson Drive on the east shore of Upper St. Croix Lake at about 1 p.m. Sunday and arrived to find the year-round home fully engulfed, said Solon Springs Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Walt. Crews were unable to save the house, but Walt said they did save a garage that was just eight feet away from the burning structure.
The fire was reported by the homeowner, who had attempted to extinguish the blaze, Walt said. No one was injured.
Walt said a damage estimate was not yet available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation -- though he said it is not suspicious in nature.
About 25 personnel were on scene, with assistance from the Bennett and Gordon volunteer fire departments and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
