Fairbanks named all-region; senior outfielder grabs first-team honors
University of Wisconsin-Superior senior outfielder Tom Fairbanks (Brainerd, Minn.) has been named All-Region byd3baseball.com, a national web site covering the game at the NCAA Division III level.
The award comes on the heels of his All-WIAC First Team honor Fairbanks earned last week.
Fairbanks, from Brainerd, Minn., was one of three outfielders named All-Midwest Region First Team.
“It was an amazing year for Tom, without a doubt,” UWS coach Nick Bursik said. “He worked extremely hard and became a big leader for our team, not just with the way he handled himself on the field, but also off of it.”
Fairbanks played in all 35 games for the Yellowjackets in 2014, batting .439 with seven doubles, eight triples and 14 home runs. He walked 25 times, scored 44 runs and drove in 61. He also was nearly perfect in the field, committing just three errors in 99 chances for a .970 fielding percentage.
“He was a great all-around player for us this year and one of the biggest reasons that we had the year we had and were so close to making the playoffs,” Bursik said. “You can’t say enough about the job he did. All of the work has paid off and now he’s in a position to earn more honors and maybe get a chance to play some baseball after college, which was one of his goals."
The next honor for Fairbanks could be an All-American honor. Those selections will be named later this month.
