Exhibit explores Hindi culture in fiber
The work of fiber artist Brita Revke is display at the North End Arts Gallery, 1323 Broadway St., Superior from Saturday to June 7. An opening reception for the exhibit, “Puja: Dancing Thrums,” runs 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can meet Revke and discuss her work. The reception is free and open to the public.
The artist has taken a cultural aspect towards the studying of Hindi culture through many trips in India and applied her experiences to her workings the show. Her pieces are constructed of banana fiber, sari fabric, silk wool glass and flexible tree branches, with a strong use of contemporary colors. The works are reminiscent of traditional Native American dream catchers.
