For shows, "Sherlock" leads the pack with seven awards (including several surprise wins at the primetime show), bringing PBS to tie with CBS, both coming in at 11 awards.

HBO won 19 Emmys overall, including best movie for "The Normal Heart," a directing nod for "True Detective," a win for "Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles" and outstanding lead actress in a drama for Julia Louis-Dreyfus for "Veep."

Allison Janney took home a big win for "Mom" for CBS, while Jim Parsons did for a fourth time for "The Big Bang Theory." Despite the jokes host Seth Meyers made at the start of the night about broadcast, the Eye beat stiff cable competitors like FX and AMC.

In its last shot at the Emmys, "Breaking Bad" follows "Sherlock" with six wins. "Saturday Night Live" and "True Detective" grabbed with five trophies each.

Wins by program (three awards or more): "Sherlock" 7 "Breaking Bad" 6 "Saturday Night Live" 5 "True Detective" 5 "American Horror Story: Coven" 4 "Cosmos" 4 "Game of Thrones" 4 "67th Tony Awards" 3 "Deadliest Catch" 3 "Disney Mickey Mouse" 3 "Fargo" 3 "Modern Family" 3 "Orange Is the New Black" 3 "The Simpsons" 3 "The Square" 3
