UPDATE: No effort to fight Superior refinery fire; evacuations could last days

Ellsworth "Pete" Orville Peterson

Ellsworth "Pete" Orville Peterson, 86, of Minong, Wis. passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at the Spooner Health System.

Pete was born in Dresser, Wis. to Orville Vincent and Ethelind Alline (Anderson) Peterson.

He graduated from Central High School in Superior. Pete served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 19441947. He married Adeline Ruth McDowell on Dec. 1, 1951 in Superior. Pete retired from the Lake Superior Terminal and Transfer Railroad after 40 years of faithful service. He enjoyed volunteering at the Spooner Railroad Museum. Pete is a member of the UTU (United Transportation Union) and the River Church in Minong, Wis.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Adeline of Minong, Wis.; four daughters Sandy Peterson of Webster, Minn., Patti Peterson of Shell Lake, Wis., Robin (Floyd) Nelson of Minong, Wis., Melissa (Dan) Spieler of Minong, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters Lois (Carl) Renoos of Solon Springs and Marjorie Larson of Virginia, Minn.; and his beloved dog and best friend "Lizzy".

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dale Peterson, one son Richard Peterson.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at the River Church in Minong, Wis. with Rev. Ben Kidder officiating. Spring burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong, Wis. with military honors.
