Edward Homer Nikstad

Edward Homer Nikstad, 67, formerly of Foxboro, Wis., died Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Denver Hospice in Denver, Colo.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1946, in a maternity house in Carlton, Minn., to Margaret (McCuskey) and Orville Nikstad.

Ed graduated in 1965 from Central High School in Superior, Wis. After graduation, Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force where he spent his next 20 years serving his country and traveling throughout the United States including remote stationing in Alaska and Woomera, Australia. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he joined Northrup Grumman (formerly Aerojet) where he continued his travels in the United States, Australia, and Korea. Ed spent most of his Air Force and Northrup Grumman time in Denver and Peyton, Colo.

On July 7, 1990, Ed married Judy Kirkegaard in Denver, Colo. After retiring from Northrup Grumman, Ed and Judy traveled with an RV and enjoyed 4-wheeling, the mountains, and the desert with many of their RV friends.

Welcoming Ed to Heaven were his father, Orville Nikstad, and sister, Barbara Obester.

Ed is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Melissa Levy of Two Harbors, Minn., and Patricia (Dave) Sandekian of Hudson, Wis.; granddaughters, Alexis and Sophia Sandekian of Hudson, Wis.; mother, Margaret (McCuskey) Nikstad of Carlton, Minn.; brothers Richard (Bonnie) and Jerry (Debbie) Nikstad of Foxboro, Wis., James (Emalyn) Nikstad of Wausau, Wis., and Ron (Tracy) Nikstad of The Villages, Fla.; sisters Jane (James) Olson and Sandra Rutheford of Superior, Wis.; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at Pine View Apartments, 800 3rd Street, Carlton, Minn. on Thursday, July 17 at 2 p.m.
