Eagles fly by the Granite Diggers

MELLEN — Solon Springs won an Indianhead Conference West boys basketball game Friday in Mellen, defeating the Granite Diggers 79-66.

Dale Rajala’s Eagles came out flying, breaking the full court press and  leading 23-13 at the quarter and 48-32 at the half.  

Solon Springs increased its lead to 66-47 after three quarters and ended up winning by 13 points.

Daniel Gengenbach lead the Eagles with 24 points; sophomore Adam Vandenberghe added 19 points; and Logan Long had 14. Austin Khalar dished out 12 assists on the night to go along with his six points. Caleb Hedberg finished with eight points, Cory Pajtash four, and C.J. Zamzow and freshman Zach Rajala had two each.

Mellen was led by Dakota Zakovec’s 30 points.

Solon Springs (10-7 overall, 6-5 ICW) faces a busy week with three home games. The Eagles host Drummond Tuesday, Ironwood (Rajala’s alma mater) Thursday, and South Shore Friday.
