A Duluth man will spend three years behind bars for possession of child pornography.

Brooks Anthony Hanson, 31, pleaded guilty last week in Douglas County Circuit Court to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of second-degree child sex assault. He was sentenced to three years in prison and seven years extended supervision for the pornography charge and 15 years of probation, a consecutive sentence, for the sex assault. Hanson was ordered to undergo a sex offender evaluation, register as a sex offender, provide a DNA sample, have no contact with the victim. Along with fines and court costs, Hanson was ordered to pay a $3,000 pornography surcharge. A charge of exposing a child to harmful material was dismissed but read in for sentencing.

According to the criminal complaints:

In October 2012, Detective John Parenteau of the Lake Superior Forensic Technology and Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce was alerted to a local computer identified as possibly containing child pornography collected through peer-to-peer file sharing.

Hanson’s desktop computer, which was seized following the execution of a search warrant, was found to have at least five videos and two images containing known child victims. The sexual assault occurred in 2012 while Hanson was watching child porn. He showed the porn to a 6-year-old and then had the child touch his penis.
