Douglas Edwin Johnson
Douglas Edwin Johnson, was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Hoople, N.Dak. He went to be with the Lord Aug. 13, 2014, in his home in Iuka, Miss., with loving hospice and family caregivers.
Douglas graduated from Detroit Lakes High School, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College with an Associate Degree. He was proud to be a Navy veteran, having served from 1955 to 1959. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 539 in Minneapolis/St Paul during his career repairing commercial HVAC units.
After moving to Superior in 1996, he was an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, Property Ministry, and the bell choir.
Douglas loved making pottery, boating, UWS hockey, and RVing. He was a full-time RVer, living and traveling in a motor home for 8 1/2 years before settling in Iuka, Miss., in 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, Iuka, Miss., his children and stepchildren, Bryce Johnson (Susan), Lissa Silbernagel, Boyd Johnson (Robin), Chad Johnson (Bobbi Warnke), Troy Johnson (Kristin), Mary Siefert (David), and TJ Williams, all in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kentucky; a sister, Fay Evavold (LeRoy); brothers Gordon Johnson (Betty) and Alton Johnson (Kathy) of Minnesota; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Anna Johnson, a brother, Charles, and a sister, Beverly. All resided in Minnesota.
The funeral will be at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12 Noon.
