Douglas County receives emergency food funding
The Douglas County Emergency Food and Shelter Committee has been chosen to receive $6,983 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the Douglas County.
A local board made up of representatives from Catholic Charities Bureau, Red Cross, United Way, Douglas County, Salvation Army, Douglas County Ministerial Association and a person who has experienced homelessness determine how the funds awarded.
Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private, voluntary nonprofits or units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; and demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs. If they are a private voluntary organizations, they must have a volunteer board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
The Douglas County Emergency Food and Shelter Committee has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds in the previous phase to Catholic Community Services, Faith United Methodist Church, Northwest Wisconsin Community Services, and The Salvation Army.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds can be submitted to Douglas County Emergency Food and Shelter Committee c/o Catholic Charities Bureau, 1416 Cumming Ave., Superior, Wisconsin 54880, Attention: Brenda Osterlund. Applications will be accepted until Jan. 21.
