Duluth: The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District hosts a free collection event for unwanted or expired medications at its regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Medicine Cabinet Clean-Out Day” is a one-day event. Residents are also encouraged to use the medication drop box sites at local law enforcement agencies for year-round opportunities for disposal of unwanted or expired medicines.

Superior: Centennial Celebration Worship at the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s at 1028 Cumming Ave. Come over for guided tours, guest speakers, live music and food starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with worship and a special feast, followed by a music concert, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday with a fundraiser brunch. Duluth: The Head O’ The Lakes Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) holds a lunch meeting at noon at the Pickwick Restaurant, 508 E. Superior St. Guest speaker is Robert T. Sherman Jr. from the UMD-Duluth Campus. He will brief the chapter on the new UMD Heroes Scholarship Fund started early last year. Superior: The Bong Book Club meets at 2 p.m. at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. To recognize and reflect on this event, the Bong Book Club holds occasional discussions on different aspects of World War I. For January 2014, members of the Bong Book Club present a brief synopsis of their readings and research relating to the events leading up to the start of World War I. Contact Scott E.
