City of Superior observes International Migratory Bird Day
Birders, casual bird-lovers, the curious and public are invited to join the city of Superior to honor International Migratory Bird Day scheduled for Saturday.
Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. with guided bird tours of Wisconsin Point led by Robbye Johnson (meet at Lot No. 1) or Billings Park led by Laura LaValley (meet at the entrance to the park at the west end of North 2lst Street).
A $10 brunch is available to participants at Captain Barker’s Restaurant at Barker’s Island Inn at 10:30 a.m. followed by a brief presentation of the Bob Browne memorial bench on the Osaugie Trail across from the inn.
At 1:30 a.m., Lake Superior Master Gardeners Chris Watten and Barb Aker present “Trees for the Birds and the Bees” at the Richard Bong Veterans Historical Center Theater, 305 Harbor View Drive Gail Johnejack, education director for Hawk Ridge then presents “The Superior Raptor Migration.”
Immediately following the presentations, prizes will be raffled including three sets of Eagle Optic binoculars.
Sponsored by Superior Rotary Club 40, the City of Superior and Barker’s Island Inn, the event is free (except for brunch) and open to the public.
