Proceeds benefit the Gordon-Saint Croix Flowage Association and support work to preserve and protect the waterway.

The race starts at 10 a.m.; the course is approximately 16 miles for racing classes and 6 miles for recreational classes. Participants compete in five categories including racing tandem canoe, racing solo canoe, racing solo kayak recreational tandem canoe or kayak, and recreational solo canoe or kayak.

For those who aren't into racing but would still like to join in the fun and support a good cause, there's also an untimed "sightseeing class." These paddlers can go any distance they like as long as they're back in time for lunch at the North Shore Resort.

Participants will enjoy a great race, numerous prizes, free lunch at the North Shore Resort, a free drink coupon for the post-race beverage of their choice, and random drawings at the award ceremony (must be present to win).

The entry fee is $30 for tandem teams and $20 for solo entries.

The race starts and finishes at the North Shore Resort, 2.7 miles west of U.S. Highway 53 on Flowage Lane. Although the flowage is a large body of water, most of the course will be in sheltered bays and channels. Paddlers in the racing classes will also travel upstream to the Gordon Ranger Station before returning to the Flowage. The course will be marked with buoys; detailed maps will be available morning of race.

Although early entries are encouraged, registration will open the morning of the race at 8 a.m. For more information, call Al Cambronne at (715) 376-2288 or get the entry form at www.gordonstcroixflowage.com.
