Bror Melvin "Mel" Johnson
Bror Melvin "Mel" Johnson, 77, of Superior passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, after a long hospital stay.
He was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Port Wing, Wis., to Carl and Hilda Johnson.
Mel served for several years in the Merchant Marines, but started on the Lakers. He retired after 25 years from the heating plant at U.W.S.
Mel was an avid car fan and could tell you all about any car by just looking at it. He enjoyed going to car shows and displaying his Mustangs.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillian Peterson and brother, Bert Johnson; a step-great-grandchild; brothers-in-law, Clarence Peterson and Nick Hill; a nephew, David Leino; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Carlson.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; four step-children, Chris Kobes, Tim (Becca Larson) Kobes, Theresa (Brad) Huisinger and Heather Kobes; six step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; two sisters, Ann Hill and Margo "Viv" (Art) Leino; brother-in-laws, Dale (Mary) Carlson and Joe (Jeanette) Carlson; sister-in-law, Joyce (Jim) Christian, many nieces and nephews and his dog Dharma.
A celebration of Mel's life will be held at a later date.
