ST. PAUL PARK, Minn. -- Authorities found the body of a 14-year-old drowning victim in the Mississippi River in St. Paul Park.

The body was found during an overnight search, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Office statement released early Monday.

No further information was going to be provided until Tuesday morning pending notification of family.

The boy was in the river at Lions Levee Park Sunday evening when he swam out to retrieve a stick, according to the sheriff's office. A witness who was with him said the boy then disappeared under water.

The witness tried to locate the victim without success, and emergency crews were called at 5:13 p.m.

A Washington County fire rescue team made numerous unsuccessful dives to try to locate the victim, and then multiple agencies responded to assist with the search. A State Patrol helicopter also was called out.

Washington County’s dive recovery team took over the search. The boy's body was found before 1:30 a.m. Monday.
