Bethards runs as Republican in sheriff’s race
A new twist has emerged in the Douglas County Sheriff election.
If all the candidates are listed under a single party, the election would be decided during the Aug. 12 partisan primary.
That was the case when Dalbec was first elected sheriff in 2003.All six candidates filed as Democrats and Dalbec was the top vote getter during the primary election.
Last week, Bethards of Brule, amended his candidacy declaration and campaign registration statements to indicate he is representing the Republican Party, according to County Clerk Sue Sandvick.
That means voters will narrow the field in August, and make their final decision for sheriff Nov. 4.
There is still time to make add to the candidate pool. The deadline to file is June 2 in the races for Douglas County sheriff and clerk of courts.
