Back to class
It’s time to sharpen pencils, grab some fresh notebooks and label those athletic shoes. Students throughout Douglas County head back to school next week. Here’s a brief run-down of who starts when.
Superior School District
Sept. 2 is the first day of classes for all students except sixth graders. Some schools have staggered starting dates for kindergarten students. Parents will be notified by their child’s school as to which dates their kindergarteners will attend. Many of the elementary schools have planned a first day celebration and orientation to encourage families’ positive involvement in their children’s education. Even if students are only expected to come for a short time, it is a regular school day. Attendance is required.
Seventh and eighth grade students will not attend Sept. 3, but it will be a regular school day for all the other students. Starting Sept. 4, all students attend classes daily.
Most Superior Community Preschool sites begin Sept. 2 as well, although classes begin at Head Start Sept. 3 and at a number of children’s centers Sept. 8. For more information or to enroll a child, call 715-394-8700, ext. 170.
For more information on start dates and daily schedules, contact your child’s school or look up the information online at www.superior.k12.wi.us or through the School District of Superior WI Facebook page.
Bus schedules and routes will be sent to parents prior to the start of the school year. For more information on transportation, call 715-394-8706.
School District of Maple
In the Maple School District, Sept. 2 will be the first day of school for elementary students in grades 1-5, all middle school students and high school freshmen. Sept. 3 will be a full day of school for all students except kindergarten and 4-year-old kindergarten students. The first day of kindergarten is Sept. 5. The 4-year-old kindergarten students start school either Sept. 8 or 9.
