Another $454 million in federal funds will fuel heating assistance across the country
The Department of Health and Human Services announced plans Thursday to make available more than $454 million in heating assistance funds across the country through LIHEAP grants, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Weston. This will help Americans meet their energy costs. Wisconsin's share of the funds is $14.2 million.
“I worked with the Northeast-Midwest Institute to encourage the Administration to expedite the release of remaining LIHEAP funds for Fiscal Year 2014,” Duffy said in the release. “This will bring much needed relief to our state and my constituents who have been hit particularly hard by the record low temperatures and record high home heating prices.
“While I appreciate the Administration heeding this request, there is much more that can be done. I am hopeful that we can work together to provide immediate assistance and long term solutions.”
The LIHEAP funding, which Duffy supported, passed the House under the Colsolidated Appropriations Act of 2014, which passed this month.
