Advertising exec retires after 50 years

Paul von Goertz, longtime local advertising agency executive, retired at the end of May after a 50-year advertising career. He began his career as a 17-year old "Office Boy" for the H.E. Westmoreland Advertising Agency in 1963. While attending UMD, he was advertising manager for the UMD Statesman during the school year, and worked in both retail and classified advertising sales for the Duluth News Tribune during the summer months.

In 1966, after serving active duty in the United States Coast Guard, he resumed his career in advertising agency work, working for five agencies, which included 30 years as founder and partner in Von Goertz & VanHove, Inc.

He is retiring from the Giant Voices marketing agency, owned by Pascha Apter and Lisa Bodine.

"Paul's advertising experience and business savvy will be difficult to replace. It has been a pleasure to work with him over the course of the last 10 years," said Pascha Apter, chief executive officer.
