49ers-Packers is highest-rated wildcard game in more than 25 years
Sunday’s 2014 NFC Wildcard playoff game between the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers was the highest-rated of its kind in more than 25 years.
More than 47 million people watched the wild Wisconsin matchup, which resulted in a San Francisco victory on a field goal as time expired. The 25.8 household rating is the highest Wildcard game since 1988. The NFL came to Fox six years later.
Year-to-year, the game is up 20 percent in rating and 24 percent in audience versus the prior Seattle vs. Washington contest.
The 49ers win ranks as the highest-rated and most-watched telecast of any kind since the 2013 Super Bowl. Not only did it top all Wildcard Weekend broadcasts in Fox history, the nail biter’s average viewership topped every NFC Divisional Playoff Game Fox Sports has ever broadcast.
It was Fox’s most-watched non-Super Bowl event ever.
