Paul Nikstad, student at Ferris State University College of Engineering Technology, Big Rapids, Mich., has been recognized as 2014-2015 outstanding student in automotive engineering technology. He graduates in December with honors. Parents are Timothy and Roberta Nikstad of Marathon City, Wis., and grandparents Joan and the late Paul Nikstad, and Lynette and the late Merton Brandt of Superior.
Jerry Hembd, professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the Cooperative University, Thanlyin, Myanmar (Burma), during its June through September 2015 semester. Thanlyin is located on the outskirts of Yangon (Rangoon), the largest city in the country. Hembd will teach two sections of urban economics — one for 30 students and another for 28 teaching staff — leading to a certificate in urban economics. He will also teach a class in curriculum development for 36 faculty and staff at the university.
