Superior Rotary selects Harker, Thompson as student Rotarians

The Superior Rotary Club selected Paige Harker and Teri Thompson, graduating seniors at Superior High School as Student Rotarians for May.

Harker is a member of the National Honor Society, served as captain of the girls’ varsity hockey team, and as a senior mentor. She was the secretary of the Interact Club, a Rotary Club for high school students, and participated in Superior-Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. In addition, she has helped teach children how to skate in the Superior Amateur Hockey Association Learn to Skate program. Harker plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to study Pre-Med. She is the daughter of Angie and Ernie Harker.

Thompson served as vice president of the Interact Club and participated in the Superior-Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. She was a member of the Spartan track team and was the caption of the Spartan cross-country team. She also volunteered with the Special Olympics and assisted athletes in various events. Thompson plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior to study elementary education, special education and Spanish. She is the daughter of Cari and Paul Thompson.

During the school year, Student Rotarians attend Rotary meetings and provide club members with opportunities to learn about high school programs and activities as well as the accomplishments and concerns of Superior youth. Each year the Superior Rotary Club awards two scholarships to students graduating from Superior High School. Information is available from school counselors.
