Superior outdoor rinks open on time

For the first time in several years, the city’s outdoor ice rinks open at the onset of the School District of Superior’s winter holiday.

“The recent cold weather provided the right conditions to develop good ice and open on time,” said Mary Morgan, Parks & Recreation administrator. City Parks & Recreation crews have been removing snow with each new snowfall, followed by building ice with flooding.

Recreation program monitors open the facilities at 4 p.m. Friday at the Allouez Play Area, 3631 E. Second St.; Billings Park Civic Association, 3903 N. 18th St.; Pattison Skating Area, 1016 Faxon Ave.; Carl Gullo Park 510 26th Ave. E.; Petroske Complex, 5902 Weeks Ave.; Red Barn Skating Area, 901 E. Sixth St.; and Wade Bowl Complex, 1228 Clough Ave.

Skating runs 4-10 p.m. Monday-Friday, with one day closed for flooding, and 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Before skaters can take to the ice, parents must sign emergency cards.

Morgan said the rinks close Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with regular hours.
