Law enforcement K-9s will display their policing skills in the annual fundraising event Operation K-9.

The Amsoil Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation will feature K-9 teams from the Duluth and Superior police departments and St. Louis and Douglas county sheriff's offices during the third annual Operation K-9. The evening will include K-9 demonstrations and a chance to meet the K-9s, as well as law enforcement vehicles and equipment on display, in addition to other activities.

The event is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Amsoil Center, 1101 Susquehanna Ave., in Superior. It will take place rain or shine, but in the event of bad weather, activities will take inside Amsoil's large warehouse.

The event is free and open to the public, but donations to the K-9 foundation are encouraged. Food, beverages and K-9 souvenirs will be available to purchase with proceeds going to the K-9 foundation.

"K-9s serve our law enforcement officers and our citizens well. They help us do our jobs more effectively and they save lives. But they are expensive to purchase and train, and as we are constantly being asked to trim department costs, we appreciate all the help we can get from the public to support our K-9 programs," Superior Police Chief Nick Alexander said in a statement.
