Grannies launch peaceful toy drive

The Northland Chapter of Grandmothers for Peace begins its 28th peaceful toy drive on Wednesday. Toys are accepted through Dec. 20.

Decorated boxes are available at local businesses and organizations for donations of unwrapped toys that promote nonviolent play. Participating locations in Superior include Cathedral of Christ the King Church, 1111 Belknap St.; the Superior Public Library children's room, 1530 Tower Ave.; Take 2 Consignments, 1202 Belknap St.; and the Superior-Douglas County YMCA at 9 N. 21st St.

Participating Duluth locations include UMD Women's Resource and Action Center; Peace Church, 1111 N. 11th Ave. E.; Explorations, 201 W. Superior St.; and the DeWitt-Seitz Building/Taste of Saigon, 394 S. Lake Ave.

Toys are donated to the Loaves and Fishes community, Safe Haven and Daboo'igan in Duluth, and the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, Toys For Tots, Harbor House and St. Vincent de Paul in Superior.

Toys should encourage creativity and peaceful play for all the young people.
