Former Bethel pastor returns as guest

Bethel Lutheran Church welcomes former pastor, Richard Peterson, to guest preach at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Peterson served Bethel from 1993 to 1999.

The community is invited to worship with Bethel and attend the after-worship reception for Peterson and his wife, Lois. The Petersons’ visit is part of Bethel’s year-long 125th anniversary celebration.

Since leaving Superior, the couple spent three years working on a Latino mission development in Des Moines, Iowa. Peterson served as pastor at Faith/Santa Fe Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and First Lutheran Church and Nativity Lutheran Church in West Allis, Wis. After retiring in 2015, the couple spent several months in Mexico mentoring World Mission Prayer League leaders

Bethel Lutheran Church first held worship services on Oct. 24, 1891, in a boarding house located in what is now Webster Park. The congregation is now located at 5821 John Ave., in the South Superior. For the next 125th anniversary event, Bethel Lutheran Church will host a booth during South End Days in Webster Park July 16.
