Meeting aims to commemorate Native people
It's been almost a century since Native people interred on Wisconsin Point were moved to a site near St. Francis Cemetery in Superior.
Tuesday, citizens can weigh in on how to commemorate the 1918 event. A gathering is planned 7-8 p.m. at the Superior Public Library to discuss the Ojibwe burial ground near St. Francis Cemetery and on Wisconsin Point.
The discussion will center around a possible community response in 2018 and community support for new signs at the sites to mark the anniversary of the relocation of the remains of Chief Osaugie and others, said meeting organizer, Jeff Monaghan. He will moderate the discussion.
