City spring cleanup kicks off May 1

It's time again to clear away old clutter and the city of Superior is willing to lend a hand.

The annual spring cleanup gets underway May 1.

City residents can place their unwanted items that don't fit in the trash can in the alley for a special one-day collection. This would include items such as old chairs, tables, toys, lawn furniture and more.

Items that won't be picked up include box springs and mattresses, construction or demolition material, corrugated cardboard and recyclables, hazardous liquids, electronics and appliances, fluorescent light bulbs, motor oil and car batteries.

The annual cleanup starts in North End on May 1. For a complete schedule and options for getting rid of waste the city cannot take, go to www.ci.superior.wi.us/DocumentCenter/View/9374 or call the street division at (715) 394-0244.

The city's annual brush collection also begins May 1 in North End. Brush should be placed on the boulevard in front of your home. The brush schedule is available at www.ci.superior.wi.us/DocumentCenter/View/9371.

Bagged leaves, stumps, garden debris and logs over 12 inches diameter will not be collected.

Free landfill days for city residents are offered 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 29 and May 6. Regular fees still apply for the disposal of mattresses and box springs.
