Duluth pediatrician receives honors for her work toward health
Dr. Nancy Monaghan Beery, a pediatrician at the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic, earned a national award from the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians.
Dr. Beery will receive the association's Community Pediatrician of the Year Award on Saturday during its scientific conference in Fort Myers, Florida. She is being recognized for "her unstinting loyalty to pediatrics, her commitment to the association and her exceptional care of children."
"Dr. Beery is the perfect example of what a pediatrician should be," said Dr. Marta Diaz-Pupek, ACOP's secretary-treasurer. "She is a great doctor, leader and educator. She is caring and compassionate. One of her greatest assets is her quest for wellness. She teaches her patients and their families how to be healthy to stay well."
Among Dr. Beery's wellness projects is the Harvest Run, an annual event she launched in 2007 to promote family fun and fitness. The run also serves as fundraiser for Essentia Health programs and services for children.
"One of my passions and joy is getting families interested in physical activity — doing something fun together like biking, skiing or running," Dr. Beery says. "I encourage children to just play hard."
In addition to her practice, Dr. Beery is a clinical instructor for the Duluth Family Medicine Residency Program and the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Duluth. She is a former president of the Duluth Clinic Physicians' Society, which raises funds to benefit Essentia Health programs and services.
Dr. Beery has served on the ACOP Board of Trustees and serves as co-chairperson of the ACOP Continuing Medical Education Committee and chairperson of the ACOP Wellness Committee. She is also a program chairperson for pediatrics for the American Osteopathic Association's annual conference this fall.
